SACMI LBF – Linear Blow Forming to play pivotal role at K 2025

Designed to produce plastic containers, this solution combines compression and stretch-blow molding in a single linear process to deliver high productivity, outstanding flexibility, quality and a smaller footprint. The technology will be on show at the K trade fair in Düsseldorf as part of a wider SACMI innovation strategy for the packaging of the future.

SACMI LBF (Linear Blow Forming) - a platform that revolutionizes the manufacture of plastic containers by integrating compression molding and subsequent stretch-blow molding into a single linear process - will soon be on show at the K fair in Düsseldorf (8-15 October 2025). This technology combines quality, efficiency, low consumption and operational flexibility and has a broad application range that spans from food to pharmaceuticals.

A single linear process: high quality and a compact layout

LBF delivers an innovative response to the needs of container manufacturers: the resulting containers are light, strong and sustainable, with greater consistency in terms of both weight and thickness.
At the heart of the system lies a new linear process that begins with compression molding of the preform and continues with stretch-blow molding. The two processes are performed in sequence, on the same machine, resulting in fast cycle times and an optimized machine layout.

The molding phase provides the intrinsic advantages of compression (a process in which SACMI leads the world with the production of one-piece caps): these advantages include better material distribution and minimal waste. Moreover, the extrusion temperature of the material - lower than in alternative processes such as injection - means low consumption.

Versatile applications for even the most demanding sectors

SACMI LBF technology has a broad application range, making it suitable for the production of containers for the food, wellness, pharmaceutical, and chemical sectors. Outstanding finished product quality, dimensional accuracy, and adaptability to different materials (HDPE, LDPE, HIPS and other high-viscosity polymers) also make LBF optimal for ‘sensitive’ contents, as in the case of pharmaceutical containers where maximum integrity, lightness and mechanical strength are musts.

LBF also offers the advantage of faster, less costly format changeovers. Linear and flexible, the system lets producers switch from one format to another quickly, minimizing downtime and reducing relative costs. The result? Fast adaptation to market demand without compromising manufacturing efficiency.

LBF 30M: up to 4,000 containers/hour and a modular configuration

The real star of the Düsseldorf K Fair will be the LBF 30M model which has output rates as high as 4,000 containers/hour and comes in 2-, 4-, or 6-cavity configurations. The system uses a double set of blow molds fed by a single molding unit, raising both productivity and the final quality of the container. The standard configuration (6 molding cavities + 12 stretch-blow stations) maximizes performance while maintaining the simplicity of the linear layout.

Integrated quality control and total customization

SACMI LBF incorporates the BVS (Bottle Vision System), the tried and tested SACMI inspection system that performs in-line quality checks to verify the integrity and geometry of the container. The system is completely modular and configurable, ensuring manufacturers can adapt to different production requirements and minimize format changeover times.

‘Full-electric’ efficiency and a rapid return on investment

Thanks to its full-electric technology, SACMI LBF significantly reduces energy consumption and is suitable for clean-room applications. Integrated configuration and swift format changeovers bring running costs down, accelerating the return on investment.
