New solutions for the beverage packaging industry: lightweight, tethered-ready caps and UniAqua™ modular technology. Also on show: far-reaching technological expertise with high-productivity solutions, low consumption, new digital controls and in-Cloud assistance
At Drink Technology India (Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, 13-15 November 2025) SACMI will be showcasing a set of proactive, certified solutions designed to meet the needs of a growing sector that’s increasingly focused on the highest standards of sustainability, design and consumer experience.
UniAqua™ 26/22: a modular family of lightweight caps
SACMI proposes the new UniAqua™ line, a range of lightweight, versatile 26/22 short-neck caps. All models in the UniAqua™ family share the same upper mold, with different designs and geometries to suit a range of applications. Ultra-low weight (from 1.08 to 1.25 grams) and fast cycle times (<1.5 seconds) combine with smooth adaptability to the increasingly popular ‘short neck’ formats. Ideal for those looking for efficiency, in keeping with best international environmental practices.
Tethered-ready proposals for the Indian market
The ability to anticipate regulatory changes with ready-to-use solutions tested to comply with the most exacting standards makes SACMI a stand-out among global technology providers. Its flagship products include the AB26CSD T5 GME 30.40 26/22 mm cap, a tethered-ready solution already well established on global markets, with an installed production capacity that now stands at 25 billion caps per year; this solution was recently adopted by an Indian customer who already supplies a leading global brand owner.
One of the key advantages of the SACMI solution is the ease with which manufacturers can switch to the new standard: with the AB26CSD T5, this can be done simply by changing the slitting pattern to create advanced patterns such as ThisCap Hold Open (TCHO).
In parallel, in converting from Alaska to 26/22 mm GME 30.28 necks, SACMI has applied tethered advancements to the UniAqua™ concept, with a new family of solutions now at an advanced stage of development and soon to be released on the market.
New ultra-light 25 mm water cap
What makes the SACMI approach special is the ability to combine lightweighting with an optimal consumer experience by fielding customer- and market-specific solutions. Through its Rigid Packaging Lab, SACMI provides comprehensive cap and preform design consulting services, with solutions approved and certified by leading global brand owners.
From this perspective, the transition to new high-efficiency standards - of huge interest to the Indian market - includes the new UniAqua-style 25/22 mm GME 30.39 water cap family which weighs from 0.7 to 1 gram.
‘Lightened’ PCO1881
Another strong point is customized ‘lightening’ for PCO 1881 caps, currently the most widespread standard on the market: this offers immediate, tangible advantages in terms of competitiveness, virgin raw material savings, and lower economic and environmental costs.
Technological expertise: CCM+IPS, a winning combination
Ever-faster, higher-performance presses that reduce consumption by up to 15% compared to current standards are the hallmark of SACMI technology. More specifically, SACMI has recently developed and launched the new 64-mold CCM press. This delivers unprecedented plastic molding productivity - 2,850 caps per minute and a cycle time of just 1.35 seconds - together with a new generation of on-board digital controls (SMART PACK™) that streamline management, raising process quality and stability over time.
On the technology side, SACMI offers the winning combination of CCM+IPS, the preform injection molding press family that’s now even more advanced following the introduction of the new IPS240, suitable for 96-cavity molds. The ‘smartest’ in the SACMI IPS family, the IPS240 is now even more versatile, able to handle a variety of necks that range from the new 26/22 and 25/22 mm to the larger PCO1881 with 33 mm neck support ring. Thanks to its electric drive, the IPS240 reduces consumption, making it one of the highest-performing solutions on the market. It’s also available with the SMART PACK™ platform for on-machine digital control. All SACMI IPS presses are designed to work with 100% rPET without any modifications to the standard machine, thus anticipating regulatory changes that impose ever-higher quotas of recycled PET in beverage containers on the main international markets (in India, 30% by April 2025, with an annual increase of 10% to reach 60% by 2030).
Local services and support
SACMI supports Indian manufacturers with a solid, well organized in-country presence. For example, in 2024 the new Rigid Packaging Lab was inaugurated at SACMI Engineering's Mumbai headquarters to raise the level of support available to the local market. This well-equipped Lab offers technical tests on caps and preforms and functional trials; it also helps customers assess lighter, more appealing, sustainable packaging. This new facility complements the digital and on-site technical support, the training provided via SACMI Academy, the S.P.A.C.E. digital platform, and the predictive maintenance and upgrade services provided through the new Smart Care™ support packages
