Ceramica Flaminia completes casting “revolution” with SACMI ALV

Following investment in its WC production department, the Civita Castellana-based company chooses SACMI high-pressure casting technology for the manufacture of washbasins too. Advantages include repeatable quality and maximum versatility of the process, eliminating manual operations.

With a seventy-year history in the heart of the Italian ceramics district, Ceramica Flaminia completes its investment in SACMI RobotCasting technology. Following on from investment in WC production, with the installation over the last few years of no less than three AVB machines, high pressure casting technology is now being extended to the manufacture of washbasins too, with the recent commissioning of the new ALV.

Designed to meet requirements for flexible and automated production, the ALV cell supplied to Flaminia is made up of three casting machines, served by high-performance Gaiotto automatic systems to  manage demoulding and subsequent loading of the finished product onto the car.

Already set up to accommodate a fourth machine in the future, the solution can reach a production capacity of 150 pieces per day, with a varied production mix, thanks to independent control of each work cycle making it possible to produce items of different shapes and sizes on different machines in parallel. At Flaminia the new cell is dedicated to the manufacture of modern counter-top washbasins, with a carefully developed style and design, that the Civita Castellana-based company sells all over the world.

Repeatable quality, together with versatility, are the strong points of the ALV, which guarantees the most advantageous management of casting operations thanks to the possibility to rotate the moulds up to 90°, optimizing the work process and improving the quality of the finished piece. In this way, thanks to the superior quality of the casting process, no other manual finishing operations are required on the piece: an air knife simply removes the residue of water from the.

Quality and repeatability of the work processes, automation and reduction of manual operations are the key themes of Flaminia’s strategy. Furthermore, it is also notable that, together with SACMI, the company has completed its ambitious technological modernization plan alongside investments in process circularity, such as, for example, the new wastewater ultra-filtration systems and re-use of raw materials in the bodies.

A global strategy then that places Flaminia firmly among the leading companies in the Italian ceramic sanitaryware district for its attention to sustainability and innovation. In this way, thanks to the increased efficiency of production management and logistical flows, resources are freed up to be re-invested in further developing the style and appearance of the product, which has long been the hallmark of the Flaminia collections.
